Our addictions and self-centeredness have separated us from God and destroyed our relationships with loved ones. We learn the truth about God’s forgiveness of sins by faith in Jesus Christ’s death and resurrection.
“If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves,
and the truth is not in us.
If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us
our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
If we say that we have not sinned,
we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us.”
1 John 1:8-9 NKJV
We learn WHY we must forgive others:
“And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision
of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him,
having forgiven you all trespasses,
having wiped out the handwriting of requirements
that was against us, which was contrary to us.
And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross.
Having disarmed principalities and powers,
He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.”
Colossians 2:13-15 NKJV
Jesus said:
“But if you do not forgive men their trespasses,
neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.“
Matthew 6:15 NKJV
