My wife, Judy, and I struggled with drunkenness for many
years before seeking sobriety through a hospital program
in 1979. What began as fun and laughs deteriorated into
ugliness and despair. Our marriage was on the rocks, our
children avoided us, and our business was heading for
bankruptcy.
Sobriety is just the beginning!
Firsthand knowledge of drunkenness gives us a deep understanding of the
love, acceptance and forgiveness everyone desires and needs. We understand that hopelessly desperate addicts know they don’t deserve anyone’s love, acceptance or forgiveness. And they are right. Getting clean and sober just isn’t enough. It’s by God’s grace and mercy that we receive His love, acceptance and forgiveness when we receive His Son, Jesus Christ, as our Lord and Savior.
The Ministry Leader’s Manual outlines ministry philosophy, weekly meeting guidelines, several related Bible studies, and topical Scriptures in a user-friendly format. In contrast to secular programs and Christianized 12-step programs, “The Most Excellent Way” affirms that God-dependency is the only
permanent solution to addiction.
“The Most Excellent Way” foundation is based on the Ten Attitudes of Victorious Living from the Beatitudes. “The Most Excellent Way” is Love: being loved by God, loving God and loving one another!
In 1986, “The Most Excellent Way” was born. The ministry began as a weekly prayer meeting at Horizon Christian Fellowship in San Diego, CA. News spread by word-of-mouth, and addicts, alcoholics and family members just started showing up. People were freed from addiction by the power of prayer, the Word of God, and the Holy Spirit. Meeting attendance grew so phenomenally, that it became apparent that we needed to compile a Ministry Leader’s Manual to help other churches and ministries establish the ministry.
What began as a weekly prayer meeting has become a worldwide ministry with hundreds of churches, rescue missions, rehab facilities, jails and prisons conducting meetings in the United States, Mexico, Poland, Chile, New Zealand, Russia, Ukraine, India, Nepal, Pakistan, Canada, Africa ...
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation;
old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.
Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through
Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation,
that is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself,
not imputing their trespasses to them,
and has committed to us the word of reconciliation.
Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ,
as though God were pleading through us:
we implore you on Christ's behalf, be reconciled to God.
~ 2 Corinthians 5:17-20
As we remain committed to making ourselves and the Fellowship / Support Meetings available, we are privileged to see Him bring the hurting people and to witness the healing power of the Holy Spirit. God receives all the glory!
“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
...who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort
those in trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God.”
II Corinthians 1:3-4 NIV
“The Most Excellent Way” is a non-profit, inter-denominational para-church organization, and all gifts are used solely to:
- WIN ... Jesus said to His disciples:
“Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.”
Mark 16:15 NKJV
- DISCIPLE ... Jesus said to His disciples:
“All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.
Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations,
baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the
Holy Spirit, teaching them too observe all things that I have
commanded you; and lo, I am with you always,
even to the end of the age.”
~Matthew 28:18-20 NKJV
- MEND ... Jesus said to His disciples:
"The Spirit of the LORD is upon Me, Because He has anointed Me
To preach the gospel to the poor;
He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted,
To proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind,
To set at liberty those who are oppressed;
To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD."
~Luke 4:18-19 NKJV
- SEND ... Jesus said to His disciples:
“But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you;
and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem,
and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
~Acts 1:8 NKJV
Unlike secular rehabs and recovery groups, we use the Word of God exclusively and its principles to help people overcome the guilt, frustration, hopelessness, fear and shame associated with these destructive life-styles. We do not endorse or teach the disease concept of addictions.
I hope you will join us as we encourage others to live victoriously in Jesus Christ. Becoming clean and sober is just the beginning!
~Pastor Glenn Wright
“At one time we too were foolish, disobedient,
deceived and enslaved
by all kinds of
passions and pleasures.
We lived in malice and envy, being hated and hating one another.
But when the kindness
and love of God our
Savior appeared,
HE SAVED US,
not because of righteous things we had done, but because of His mercy.
He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom He poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ
our Savior, so that, having been justified
by His grace,
we might become heirs having the hope
of eternal life.”
Titus 3:3-7 NIV
